Matthew Ferraro, President of Bango Distribution, expressed his enthusiasm for the decision, stating, “I’m so happy we chose New Jersey and not New York. I never realized how big the state is. It’s just like town after town after town.” Ferraro, originally from Valley Stream on Long Island, New York, moved to California in 2014 with his brother Ron and has been in the cannabis industry his entire life.

New Jersey’s approach to the cannabis market has impressed Ferraro, who noted, “New Jersey, they’re operating smarter than any state I’ve seen.” While some may feel differently, he emphasizes that developing a thriving cannabis industry takes time. Bango Distribution’s entry into the Jersey City & surrounding areas market is a testament to their confidence in the state’s potential.

Building Bango NJ

Bango Distribution is a family-run business, with Matthew Ferraro serving as President and his brother Ron as CEO. The company prides itself on being the largest cannabis company in California that hasn’t received external funding. “We made it happen with our capital,” Ferraro explained, highlighting their humble roots and bootstrapped approach.

By not having investors, Bango Distribution can maintain competitive pricing. Two NJ Cannabis Flower Brands Available

Bango NJ operates two brands that reflect the quality of their cannabis:

1. Elyon: Elyon cannabis is Bango’s most potent brand, with a THC content usually around 20 percent. To be branded Elyon, the cannabis must look good, taste good, smoke well, and make the consumer feel good.
2. Feelz: The lower THC cannabis is sold under the second-tier Feelz brand, catering to a wider range of consumers.

Ferraro explained that most of their cannabis is a hybrid between Sativa and Indica, emphasizing that individual reactions to strains can vary greatly. While many consumers focus solely on THC content, Bango Elyon aims to educate customers about the importance of terpenes and cannabinoids in contributing to the overall experience.

Growing Bango Elyon and Feelz Cannabis Flower

Bango NJ’s cultivation facility, located in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, has been operational for three years. The company began planting immediately after winning their official New Jersey cannabis cultivation license in December 2022. Their cannabis is soil-grown and sun-grown in a light-assisted, climate-controlled greenhouse, which reduces costs and, subsequently, the shelf price.

Ferraro emphasized the benefits of greenhouse cultivation, stating, “The sun produces better terps than any lights could ever produce. LED lights are trying to emulate the sun, but it’s not sustainable on the power grid.” Bango NJ’s commitment to sustainable practices aligns with Benedict's Supply‘s focus on creating a welcoming, professional, and clean environment for customers.

The cultivation process takes approximately 4 months, and Ferraro noted that their New Jersey-grown flower is as good as or better than their California flower due to the controlled greenhouse environment. Bango NJ is planning to expand its product line, with pre-rolled joints debuting next month, followed by a pre-ground cannabis flower line called The Lid. By the 3rd Quarter of the year, the company plans to introduce extraction-based products, such as rosin and infused joints.
